The Croatian Olympic Academy (HOA) has entered an agreement with the Dražen Petrović Foundation to implement a programme promoting Olympic values and cultural dimensions of sport.

The programme is entitled "Olympic Ideals - Dražen Petrović", named after the legendary late basketball player.

Petrović won a men's basketball bronze at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics and silver at Seoul 1988 with Yugoslavia, and helped the country to win the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) EuroBasket in 1989 and World Cup in 1990.

Competing for independent Croatia, Petrović won another Olympic silver medal at Barcelona 1992.

Petrović died in a car accident in 1993, but continues to be viewed as a national hero in Croatia.

The programme seeks to promote Olympic values and the cultural dimension of sport, and spread the idea of combining sport with culture and education through the career of Petrović.

Six editions of the programme have been implemented in schools across Croatia.

Educational workshops at the Dražen Petrović Foundation's headquarters and Dražen Petrović Museum-Memorial Centre feature as part of the programme.

This includes a film about the monument to Petrović in front of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and a guided tour of the museum in Zagreb.

Each school receives two educational comics for its library on the work of Petrović and educational leaflets from the HOA.

They also receive two basketballs with an image of Petrović, while each participant is given a poster.

HOA director Saša Ceraj and Dražen Petrović Foundation Board of Directors President Biserka Petrović signed the agreement to collaborate on the programme's implementation.

Petrović was awarded the Olympic Order in 1993, and inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007.

Players at the 2013 EuroBasket in Slovenia voted him the greatest European player of all time.
