Al Khalifa was elected unopposed at the 33rd AFC Congress in Manama, which is set to be his last term as AFC chief.

The Bahraini, who first became President in 2013 when he replaced Mohammed bin Hammam in 2013, would have served as President for 14 years after his latest stint ends in 2027.

The 57-year-old Al Khalifa replaced Hammam to complete his remaining two years after the Qatari official was deposed and banned for life following his involvement in a corruption scandal that helped Qatar gain support for the 2022 FIFA World Cup bid.

Al Khalifa won the election unopposed in 2015 and 2019 as well.

The Congress also chose six representatives from the AFC who will serve on the FIFA Council.

The FIFA Council members are Kohzo Tashima of Japan, Kanya Keomany of Laos, Datuk Haji Hamidin Bin Haji Mohd Amin of Malaysia, Mariano Araneta Jr of the Philippines, Sheikh Hamad Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar and Yasser H Almisehal of Saudi Arabia.

"I want to thank you all again for your overwhelming support for my candidacy to lead Asian football for another four years," Al Khalifa said.

"I embrace my duty with great pride and honour.

"So many milestones have been achieved and yet there remains so much more for us to accomplish together.

"And most importantly, our achievement underlines the stability and unity of the strong foundations that we have built together in the last decade.

"As we look ahead, let me assure you that the AFC will continue to place the development of our member associations and regional associations at the heart of all our efforts."

The AFC Congress also announced that Saudi Arabia would host the prestigious Asian Cup for the first time in history.
