Triple Olympic medallist Nick Goepper has retired from competitive freestyle skiing at the age of 28 following an 11-year career.

All of Goepper's triumphs came in slopestyle as he first reached an Olympic podium with bronze at Sochi 2014 before two silvers followed at Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022.

"With great excitement and emotion I’d like to announce my retirement from full-time competition," said Goepper.

"Starting today would have been my 12th X Games Aspen.

"Reminiscing over the last 10+ years of spinnin’ to win it has truly been the biggest blessing what this sport has given me.

"I could never express enough appreciation for the support of my sponsors, family, friends, coaches, and countless other supporters.

"With great pleasure I can't wait to watch the next generation take over and put freeskiing on a global stage.

"What’s next?

"Who knows.

"I'll still be skiing, I'll still be around."

Goepper’s first World Cup podium came in 2013, and he was a mainstay in the upper echelons of the sport the majority of the next decade.

He also won two medals in the International Ski and Snowboard Federation World Championships- a bronze in 2013 in Voss-Myrkdalen in Norway and another bronze in 2019 in Park City in Utah.

Since Beijing 2022, Goepper has begun commentating at elite freeski and snowboard events, such as the US Grand Prix at Copper Mountain in December.

He also competed at the World Skate Games 2022 last November, where he recorded a top 10 finish in inline skating.

Well wishes have come flooding in for Goepper.

"You're a legend my brother!" said triple Winter X Games champion Bobby Brown.

"Been amazing seeing your rise and being able to witness your dominance in slope first hand!

"Looking forward to seeing what’s next from ya!

"I'll miss watching your mind boggling runs."

China's double Beijing 2022 gold medallist Eileen Gu also weighed in, saying: "Congrats Nick!! Can't wait to see what's next."
