In another first, Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson helped Britain to their first European Championship medal since 2014 by getting the silver and the home pair of Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis of Finland earned bronze.

Two-time European bronze medallists Guignard and Fabbri scored a total of 210.44 points to take gold.

"It has been a long journey to get to this point and we couldn’t be happier," Fabbri said.

"It is difficult to express our feelings. It's a work of a lifetime and a real dream come true."

Fear and Gibson bagged silver, scoring 207.89 while home favourites Turkkila and Versluis managed 198.21 points overall for bronze.

Among women, Anastasiia Gubanova of Georgia created history by becoming the first from her country to win an ISU Championship.

Gubanova beat Belgium’s world silver medallist Loena Hendrickx for the title.

In her debut at the ISU European Championships, Kimmy Repond of Switzerland earned a bronze medal.

Gubanova totalled 199.91 points overall to take the title, the first women’s medal for Georgia since Elene Gedevanishvili’s bronze in 2012.

"I have not realized it yet, I am in shock," Gubanova said.

"I was so nervous before my skate and mentally it was very tough.

"At the end of my performance, there were a lot of emotions.

"Mostly I was happy that I was able to overcome myself. This medal means a lot to me."

Hendrickx secured silver with 193.48 points while Repond 192.51 points for bronze.
