The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) has donated 30 tables to the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia as it hosts the first leg of the European Teqball Tour in Skopje.

The Jane Sandanski Sports Centre in the capital has welcomed 151 athletes from 53 countries for the competition which features five categories.

"We are glad to host such a jaw-dropping and very important sporting event in our city," said Aerodrom Mayor Sasho Popovski.

"I truly hope that together we can implement Teqball into the life of the local youths.

"For that FITEQ donated 30 tables to us, to start the task and we are very thankful."

Mucunski also claimed that teqball is already at a level in the country where it can help the economy and is attractive to sponsors.

Secretary general of the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia Sasho Popovski also weighed in, expressing his support for teqball to feature on the biggest stage.

"It is our duty to bring sport to the people of North Macedonia," he said.

"We are working very hard to reach the newest generation with sport and the Olympic Committee of North Macedonia do thinks that teqball is one of the best ways to do so.

"I would like to see teqball in the Olympics soon with, of course, Macedonian athletes on the top of the podium."

FITEQ is said to be exploring the possibility of hosting more events in Skopje including referee and coaching courses.

The ongoing competition is set to host medal matches tomorrow where maximum qualification points for the teqball tournament in the European Games this year in Poland are on offer.

"When arrived to the venue, I felt that this is different, this is a festival.

"To improve our sport here in North Macedonia, I genuinely believe that the Olympic committee of the country, the national federation of teqball, the local government as well FITEQ has to work together closely.

"In Skopje we have the best partners to do so and I will be happy to return for the next time."
