Ghana's Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has insisted that a cadet fencing tournament scheduled for Accra next month will help select the Ghanaian team for the African Games in August.

The competition is set to run from February 14 to February 21 at the Trust Emporium in Bukom, a suburb of Accra.

"The competition will serve as a preparatory ground to identify Ghana's talents for the African Games," Ussif said, according to Modern Ghana, as he pledged the support of the Ministry for the Games.

Ghana Fencing Federation President Mohammed Mahadi leads the newly-constituted Organising Committee for the fencing tournament and met the Minister to formally introduce his team.

"The committee had begun a series of engagements to create awareness and also solicit support to make the organisation and hosting of the championship a great success," Mahadi explained.
