Sweden lost 6-3 to seven-time winners and 2022 runners-up the United States in their opening match of the tournament, meaning they had to win a quarter-final 6-1 against Slovakia to reach the last four.

The US had yet to concede a goal in the tournament, and Lucia DiGirolamo was assisted by Finley McCarthy to fire them in front in the first period at the Östersund Arena.

However, two power plays for Sweden in the second period turned the semi-final in their favour.

Mira Jungaker levelled the scores, before Astrid Lindeberg grabbed what proved to be the game's decisive goal.

Felicia Frank was in inspired form for Sweden in goal, making 37 saves to ensure they reach the final for only the second time.

The second semi-final brought the first over-time period of the Championship, with eight-time winners Canada and Finland locked at 2-2.

Abby Stonehouse put Canada ahead in the first period, but Sanni Vanhanen equalised in the second period and Pauliina Salonen made it 2-1 to Finland on a power play in the third.

Alex Law drew Canada level at two apiece, and Ava Murphy grabbed the winning goal to send them into the final.

Medal matches are set to be played tomorrow.
