Danish Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen finished the 2022 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour season as the top earner.

The BWF has released the list of the top 120 earners in 2022 with Axelsen, a men's singles gold medallist at Tokyo 2020, leading the way.

Axelsen secured $404,125 (£334,200/€379,000) after winning six BWF World Tour titles in a superb year that saw him finish as the world number one men's singles player.

The top 10 earners is dominated by women's singles players, led by Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

Yamaguchi was second overall with $268,300 (£221,900/€251,600) in prize money, followed by Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei on $263,170 (£217,600/€246,800).

China's Huang Ya Qiong was marginally a higher earner than her partner Zheng Si Wei, as she made two finals with a different player.

Huang was fourth overall with $248,155 (£205,200/€232,700), while compatriot Zheng finished fifth with $240,662 (£199,000/€225,700).

The other women's singles players in the top 10 were Chinese aces Cheng Yu Fei and He Bing Jiao who earned $191,075 (£158,000/€179,200) and $190,650 (£157,700/€178,800) respectively as well as South Korea's An Se-young who collected $158,605 (£131,200/€148,700).

Women’s doubles world champions Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan of China were joint ninth, with $141,323 (£116,900/€132,500) each.

The highest men's singles earner after Axelsen was Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in 13th place with $129,107 (£106,800/€121,000).
