Judoka Romane Dicko is aiming to win gold on home soil at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games following her World Championships triumph last year.

The 23-year-old won individual bronze at Tokyo 2020 in the women's over-78-kilograms division before winning the team title with France.

She then enjoyed a standout year in 2022 as she won European and world gold in Sofia and Tashkent, respectively.

Although Dicko ended the Olympic individual contest in tears in Japan, she now takes inspiration from her podium finish.

"At each competition, I arrive as an Olympic medallist," Dicko said, as reported by Le Monde.

"It counts for my opponents, and also for me.

"When I have moments of doubt, I look at my medal and tell myself that I can do it.

"When you come back medallist of the Games at 21, you say to yourself that it is possible.

"I wanted to show at the Worlds that I could do even more: go to the final and win it."

Dicko stepped up to be the star of the French team at Tashkent 2022 as they were without 10-time world champion Teddy Riner and double Olympic gold medallist Clarisse Agbegnenou.

Although her life revolves around judo, Dicko is wary that her athlete career will not last forever.

"Sport is not my whole life.

"I live, I sleep judo, judo takes up a lot of space.

"But if my career lasts fifteen years, it's already huge.

"Most of my life will be without judo.

"We must prepare for the future.

"I want to have a choice.

"And then my father would never have let me do high level if I didn't have a school project on the side."

The judo events at Paris 2024 are set to take place from July 27 to August 3 at the Champ de Mars Arena.
