A mixed gender softball game has opened the 2022-2023 baseball, softball and baseball5 season in Burkina Faso.

Baseball Softball Federation of Burkina Faso President Ibrahima Sibore was present for the showpiece match, with all clubs based in the nation’s capital Ouagadougou participating.

At the end of the game Sibore accepted a donation of baseball equipment from Ambassador of Japan Masaaki Kato.

The donation included a collection of gloves, bats, helmets, baseballs and uniforms.

Sibore provided a summary of the previous season in a speech during the day, and also announced that the 2022-2023 season would include competition in baseball, softball and baseball5.

Burkina Faso reached the quarter-finals of the inaugural Baseball5 African Championship earlier this year, where they were defeated by South Korea.

South Africa were victorious in the competition, held in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
