Norway came from behind to defeat Denmark in the final and retain the European Women's Handball Championship title.

The Norwegians trailed at the break at Ljubljana's Arena Stožice and did not take the lead until there were fewer than four minutes remaining.

Henny Reistad - named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) earlier in the day - scored the go-ahead goal and soon added another to put Norway 26-24 up.

Stine Oftedal extended the advantage and while Denmark pulled a goal back three seconds from time, it offered scant consolation and the final finished 27-25.

Norway's Nora Mørk finished the final with eight goals and was the tournament's leading scorer with 50.

It is Norway's record ninth European Women's Handball Championship victory and they hold both world and continental crowns.

Denmark were the only team to beat Norway all tournament, doing so in the second group stage, but could not repeat the trick.

Olympic champions France - who Norway beat in the semi-finals - lost the bronze-medal match against Montenegro 27-25 following extra time.

France's Grâce Zaadi had scored a last-second goal to send the game to an extra period, but Montenegro edged the additional 10 minutes 5-2.

MVP Reistad and Oftedal were both named to the Euro 2022 All-Star Team.

Denmark and France also had two players in the team - Emma Friis and Kathrine Heindahl for Denmark, Pauletta Foppa and goalkeeper Cleopatre Darleux for France.

Romania's Cristina Neagu, Hungarian Katrin Klujber and Jovanka Radičević - who scored six goals for Montenegro in the third-place playoff - completed the All-Star Team.
