The World Curling Federation (WCF) has appointed a development officer and head of ice services, as well as an information and digital technology officer.

Experienced ice maker Mark Callan, who has been a part of the WCF events team at three Winter Olympic Games and two Paralympic Games as well as several World, European and Pacific-Asia Championships, is the new development officer and head of ice services.

Callan comes from Kay's Curling in Scotland - the most prestigious curling stone manufacturer - where he spent 11 years as their sales and technical services director.

"Mark has been an integral member of the World Curling Academy Advisory Group since its inception and to now have him as a team member at the World Curling Federation means so much," said WCF head of development Scott Arnold.

"His knowledge of ice and stones is second to none and as a trained educator for the academy, he will be able to work full-time with our member associations to share his wisdom."

Callan said he was very pleased to be joining the team as a full-time member.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of this new role as I will still be involved in events as an ice technician as well as furthering the development and roll out of the World Curling Academy ice technician courses," he said.

Derek Goodwin joins the WCF as the information and digital technology officer with 35 years of experience in retail and wealth management industries.

He comes into a media team lead by head of communications and marketing Chris Hamilton, which has now doubled its full-time staff members in five years.

"I am delighted to join the team and looking forward to helping grow World Curling," Goodwin said.

"As a technology geek, I look forward to applying my talents on the ice."
