The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games hockey venue has become the event's first site to be available for use by athletes.

The venue is located in the National Stadium Sports Park in the Chilean capital and has been given the green light to host training sessions for the country's men's and women's teams.

"Hockey becomes the first sport of our Pan American and Parapan American Games to receive its field," a Santiago 2023 statement read.

"From Monday, November 7, Los Diablos and Diablas will be able to train at the Field Hockey Sports Center of the National Stadium."

A delegation from the Games' Organising Committee visited the venue and were welcomed by players to officially open it, while the Santiago 2023 mascot Fiu was also in attendance.

In March of this year, the hockey arena became the first venue for the Games to be officially inaugurated.

Two months later, organisers confirmed a final venue plan consisting of 41 competition venues, two of which will be used exclusively for the Parapan American Games.

During the September Panam Sports General Assembly, head of the governing body's Technical Commission for Santiago 2023 Michael Fennell expressed concerns with progress being made on some of the Games' venues.

"We do feel that some work needs to be done to some of the venues, certainly in terms of the aquatics and volleyball venues," said Fennell.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are set to take place from October 20 to November 5 before the Parapan American Games run from November 17 to 25.
