Back-to-back world champion Ramazan Gitinov produced a stirring comeback against Kazakhstan's Dmitry Yarkov to reach the men's welterweight semi-finals at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Asian Championships in Dushanbe.

Yarkov produced a first-round knockdown against his Bahraini opponent at the Kasri Tennis Va Machmaai Varzishi Ob, but Gitinov rallied to produce a technical knockout.

He is set to face Tajikistan's home favourite Jovidon Mahmudov, who won via the same route against India's Varun Sanyal, in the semi-finals.

In the other two men's welterweight quarter-finals, Uzbekistan's Mirjalol Yusupov beat Farridun Shonazarov of Tajikistan and Doszhan Kenzhebayev of Kazakhstan overcame Bahrain's Mehrojjon Mirzoev, both by unanimous points decisions.

Kazakhstan's Yerulan Kabdulov beat Uzbekistan's Odil Sayfiddinov on a split decision in the men's strawweight division, setting up a semi-final against India’s Shabarish Ayyanar, who beat Tajikistan’s Bakhityor Tolibov by the same method.

The other semi-final is set to feature Kazakhstan's Ruslan Abdrakhmanov against Tajikistan's Isrofil Komilzoda.

Three home athletes in Mirzobek Umarov, Shoymard Abdulnazarov and Akrom Uzakov progressed in the men's bantamweight, together with Kazakhstan's Salauat Kabi.

The men's featherweight semi-finals are set feature two athletes from Uzbekistan in Shukurjon Rustamov and Zafar Rashidov, and two from Tajikistan in Isomiddin Zokirov and Manuchehr Rioev.

At men's middleweight, home favourite Qosim Sardorov beat Kazakhstan's Zhaxybek Aimakhanov on a unanimous decision, setting up a semi-final against Bahrain’s Sultan Omarov after his victory over Tajikistan's Mehrojjon Mirzoev.

Another Tajikistani athlete in Halid Tolibzoda overcame Zhaxybek Aimakhanov in the same weight division, while Jordan's Hazem Kayyali saw off India's Ramston Rodrigues.

Home favourites Zafarsho Shomirsaidov and Muhammad Salohiddinov are joined by Bahrain's Magomed Sheikhov and India's Mahboob Khan Mohammad Khan in the men's flyweight semi-finals.

Competition was also held in the men's lightweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight, and women's strawweight and flyweight categories.

The IMMAF Asian Championships are set to continue with semi-final action tomorrow.
