Sebastian Koerdel and Marta Maggetti made full use of starting in pole positions for their respective finals by coming out on top in the medal races at the iQFOiL World Championships in Brest.

Germany’s Koerdel needed to fend off Dutch duo Luuc Opzeeland and Huig Jan Tak, who entered the final day in second and third.

Unfortunately for them, they could not make any inroads on the leading sailor and they finished in the same positions that they started in.

Tom Reuveny of Israel and Clément Bourgeois of France completed the top five.

In the women’s competition, there was drama at the top of the rankings despite Maggetti being unmoved.

Britain’s Emma Wilson and Spain's Pilar Lamadrid Trueba started the day in the podium places but were pipped by Israeli pair Daniela Peleg and Maya Morris.

It meant Wilson and Trueba rounded off the top five instead of finishing with medals.
