As expected, a quartet of fighters became the first undisputed champions of the Para Taekwondo Grand Prix circuit in Manchester on Thursday.

Among men, Mahmut Bozteke of Turkey defeated Antonio Bossolo of Italy 9-2 in the men’s 61 kilograms final.

That was followed by a dramatic clash between Evan Medell of the United States and Nyshan Omirali of Kazakhstan.

It was close contest that ended 8-6 in Medell’s favour as the American won the over-80kg men’s title.

Turkey’s Meryem Betül Çavdar made it three out of three in Grand Prix finals so far.

She defeated a familiar foe in Jessica Garcia of Mexico 12-3 for the women’s 49kg title.

Finally, Mexican Juan Diego Garcia Lopez continued his stellar form in 2022 by remaining undefeated in Manchester.

Pitted against Imamaddin Khalilov of Azerbaijan, he cruised to a 6-0 lead with 52 seconds to go.

While Khalilov tried for a comeback, the Paralympic champion proved to be too strong as he won the men’s 70kg title 9-5.

For the hosts, Beth Munro bettered her Tokyo 2020 silver medal by winning gold in the women's 65kg final.

Britain's Munro defeated Paralympic champion Lisa Gjessing of Denmark 8-4 in the final.

Meanwhile, compatriot and two-time world champion Amy Truesdale settled for silver after going down to Uzbekistan's Guljonoy Naimova in the over-65kg final at the Manchester Regional Arena.

The hosts also won a bronze medal after Joe Lane won the men’s under-80kg bronze.

He lost to Ukraine's Asadbek Toshtemirov 16-11 in the semi-final.
