Tokyo 2020 champions and a strong home squad will feature at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Manchester, which is due to start tomorrow.

A total of 256 athletes from 61 countries and the refugee team are scheduled to compete in all at the Manchester Regional Arena, across three days of competition.

Manchester hosted the inaugural World Taekwondo Grand Prix in 2013 and the sport is returning to a city it knows well.

Among those due to see action are Vito Dell'Aquila of Italy, the Olympic champion in the men's under-58 kilograms class at the delayed Games in Tokyo last year.

He will be joined by Thailand's Panipak Wongpattanakit, who won the women's under-49kg crown in the Japanese capital.

Eight weight classes will be contested with Britain's team featuring the likes of Jade Jones, the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic champion at under-57kg.

Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Bradly Sinden and Lauren Williams will battle for the hosts in the men's under-68kg and women's under-67kg respectively.

Britain's three-time world champion Bianca Cook, formerly Bianca Walkden, will pad up at over-67kg after her marriage to fellow taekwondo star Aaron Cook.

"The World Taekwondo Grand Prix is all about the best fighting the best and so we are always guaranteed excellent matches and a thrilling spectacle," said World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue.

"Manchester is a special place for taekwondo and where the Grand Prix first began in 2013.

"We know that the city can host world-class taekwondo events as we saw with the World Championships in 2019 and last year's inclusive European Championships.

"We are sure this Grand Prix will be no different."
