Organisers of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games have held coordination meetings with representatives from the La Reina commune, which is set to host boxing and wrestling competitions.

Santiago 2023 executive director Gianna Cunazza represented the Organising Committee, while Mayor José Manuel Palacios was among the La Reina delegation.

La Reina is a commune in the east of Chile's capital city.

The La Reina Community Sports Centre is due to provide the venue for boxing and wrestling at Santiago 2023, and details related to both sports were finalised at the meeting.

Men's and women's boxing events are due to be held from October 22 to 26 next year.

They are set to serve as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics under the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) updated process for the sport, which places an emphasis on continental Games.

The International Boxing Association, which has been stripped of its right to organise boxing at Paris 2024 for the second consecutive Olympic Games, criticised the "late" changes implemented by the IOC.

Wrestling is due to begin with men's and women's freestyle competition, running from November 1 to 3.

Men's Greco-Roman wrestling bouts are due to be the final events held in La Reina on November 3 and 4.

More than 6,900 athletes are expected to compete in the Pan American Games and more than 1,900 in the Parapan American Games, with both events featuring 41 participating countries.

A total of 61 disciplines are on the Pan American Games programme, and 18 in the Parapan American Games.

The Pan American Games are due to run from October 20 to November 5, and the Parapan American Games from November 17 to 26.
