The hosts also picked up nine silver medals and eight bronze to beat second-placed France, who had six gold medals and five silver.

Iran made up the top three as they claimed three gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

Lee Yun-ri was the star of the show for South Korea as she secured two gold medals and set a new world record.

Lee, a Beijing 2008 champion, opened the hosts' campaign at the Changwon International Shooting Range with a win in the R2 women's 10 metres air rifle standing SH1 final where she shocked reigning Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara of India.

The South Korean scored a total of 249.1 points to beat Lekhara's 247.8, while Lee's compatriot Kang Myung-soon rounded out the top three on 224.2 points.

"It was the first time for me in 12 years to win a medal in R2 at an international event," Lee said.

"I won gold in R2 at the 2010 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

"R2 - 10m air rifle standing is always like warming up ahead of my main event R8, so I was lucky to win gold this time.

"Rivalry with Avani is something I cannot ignore, but I always focus on my own game first."

Lee continued her fine form in the R8 women's 50m rifle three positions SH1, the same discipline where she won Paralympic gold.

Her score of 461.1 secured victory and set a world record, beating Veronika Vadovičová of Slovakia's 459.4.

Thailand's Wannipa Leungvilai took the silver with 441.6 points to give her country a first medal at the event, ahead of South Korea’s Lee Yoo-jeong on 432.1.
