Ten countries shared the medals on the final day of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth, Canada.

Olympic champion Nevin Harrison of the United States claimed gold on her return to international racing in the women’s C1 200 metres.

Harrison triumphed in 49.87, with silver going to Maria Corbera of Spain in 50.54 and Wenjun Lin of China earning bronze in 50.55.

In the men’s C1 1000 Catalin Chirila won Romania’s first world title since 1986, triumphing in a time of 4min 14.28sec.

Chirila held off Olympic champion Isaquias Dos Santos, with the Brazilian earning silver in 4:15.80.

Czech Republic’s Martin Fuksa won the bronze medal in 4:16.21.

In the men’s K2 500, Hungarian duo Bence Nadas and Balint Kopasz were victorious in 1:34.98.

This will be a new discipline at the Paris 2024 Olympics and was also a second world title of the weekend for Kopasz.

Lithuanian pair Mindaugas Maldonis and Andrej Olijnik claimed silver in 1:35.56, with bronze going to Jean Westhuyzen and Thomas Green of Australia in 1:35.85.

In the women’s K2 500, Karolina Naja and Anna Pulawska of Poland continued their impressive form this season as they won the event in 1:49.87.

The silver medals went to Paulina Paszek and Jule Hake in 1:50.28, with bronzes going to Hermien Peters and Lize Broekx of Belgium in 1:52.64.

Australia’s Alyssa Bull won two events on the day - the women’s K1 1000m in a time of 4:27.65, and then alongside Jackson Collins in the mixed K2 500 in 1:39.48.

Hosts Canada also won two golds - in the women’s C4 500 in 1:56.14 thanks to their team of Sophia Jensen, Sloan Mackenzie, Katie Vincent and Julia Osende, and the mixed C2 500 in 1:56.87 with Vincent and Connor Fitzpatrick.

In non-Olympic events Dame Lisa Carrington of New Zealand triumphed in the women’s K1 200 in 41.94 - an event she is unbeaten in since 2011.

Meanwhile in the men’s C2 1000, Germany’s Sebastian Brendel and Tim Hecker won gold in 3:54.91, with Brendel winning a 13th world title.
