The pair's organisations combined to stage the judo competition in the Slovakian city in a collaboration that has been described as demonstrating the values that integrate with the EYOF message of friendship and unity.

"I'm very glad and very proud of this event, and for this team," said Tóth.

"It has been a perfect combination between the Organising Committee and our EJU team.

"It was not so easy because this competition and altogether the Festival started three years ago with its first steps, but the results are excellent, we need more of these competitions and the chances for our young athletes.

"This is a very good decision from the EOC, unfortunately the other continents did not go ahead with this type of event, only their continental championships, so our athletes have a great opportunity here.

"For us today it was such an honour to welcome Spyros Capralos and the EOC treasurer, Peter Mennel, I think they have a great respect for our sport and although we have competition with other sports, we are in a stable position in the next EYOF."

The judo competition has attracted one of the biggest crowds at EYOF with fans flocking to the Športová Hala Dukla to see Europe's most promising judoka in action.

"I think they are so happy to be back, we saw it here in judo, the stadium was full of people and enthusiasm, it’s so important for everyone to be together, not just the athletes but all of us, we are so happy about this," said Capralos.

"In less than six months we have the Winter EYOF and next year in Maribor, Slovenia, again the Summer event, so many great things are coming for these young athletes."

Judo has appeared at every edition of the Summer EYOF since its inception in 1991.
