Japan's Misaki Emura and France's Enzo Lefort claimed wins today at the Fencing World Championships in Cairo, becoming the gold medallists in the women's sabre and men's foil respectively.

Second seed Emura was able to defeat German 57th seed Larissa Eifler in the quarter-finals 15-10 and then made the final by beating Spanish 21st seed Araceli Navarro 15-5 at the Indoor Halls Complex of the Cairo International Stadium .

There she would meet the world number one and European champion Anna Bashta from Azerbaijan who won 15-11 against Greece's Theodora Gkountoura, the seventh seed, in the quarter-finals.

Bashta made the final by defeating another Greek fencer, third seed Despina Georgiadou, 15-9.

In the final, the Japanese won 15-10 to claim gold.

Lefort gave France another gold - after two yesterday for Romain Carrone and Ysaora Thibus - in the men's foil, his second individual world title.

The 10th seed defeated 47th-seeded Hungarian Gergő Szemes 15-3 in the quarter-finals; and made the final with a 15-14 victory over American 11th seed Nick Itkin.

His opponent was Tommaso Marini, the Italian fourth seed, who defeated Egyptian fifth seed Alaaeldin Abouelkassem 15-9 and Hong Kong's top seed Cheung Ka Long 15-12 to make the final.

Lefort took the gold medal by a single point, winning 15-14.
