Representatives from the International University Sports Federation (FISU) have visited Westenergie Sports Hall in Mülheim to inspect the venue before it hosts badminton at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 World University Games.

It is FISU officials' second visit to facilities in the Rhine-Ruhr region, after inspecting the diving facilities in Essen earlier this year.

"This is our first technical visit to Mülheim, the heart and soul of German badminton," said Bastian Kruse, chairman of the FISU Badminton Technical Committee.

"The city is known worldwide for the excellent organisation of badminton events.

"I'm sure that the Westenergie Sports Hall offers excellent conditions for the badminton competitions at the Rhine-Ruhr FISU Games.

"I look forward to working well with the Organising Committee and partners to develop an innovative, future-oriented event design."

A total of 18 sports are expected to be contested come Rhine-Ruhr 2025, including 15 core sports, with beach volleyball, rowing and 3x3 basketball the optional sports due to feature.

"The FISU inspection visits are very important for us as the Organising Committee," Rhine-Ruhr 2025 managing director Stefan Kürten added.

"They show us where we are on the right track and in which areas there are still conceptual or organisational challenges.

"We appreciate the feedback from the FISU and look forward to the close cooperation."

The visit was said to be beneficial for both sides and is hoped to help the Games' organisers to work out a short- and long-term timetable to ensure the venue's readiness.

"We are very pleased that badminton is part of the Rhine-Ruhr FISU Games," said Wilfried Jörres, vice-president of the German Badminton Association.

"We will do our best to support the Organising Committee so that the FISU Games will be as successful as other world class and international events in the sport of badminton that have taken place in Mülheim in the past."
