Slovenia is gearing up to host the Women's Junior Handball World Championship for the first time in its history with the cities Celje, Laško, and Velenje all scheduled to host matches.

Dvorana Golovec Celje, Arena Zlatorog Celje. Dvorana Tri lilije Laško, and Rdeča Dvorana Velenje are all due to stage fixtures at the tournament which runs from June 22 to July 3.

It is the first time that the event is featuring 32 teams instead of the traditional 24.

Hungary go into the Championship as defending champions having beaten Norway in the 2018 edition on home ground.

They have been drawn into group H alongside Poland, Egypt, and the United States while this year's hosts find themselves facing Germany, Chile, and Mexico in group F after being put into pot two.

Russia were originally set to participate but were banned from competing by the International Handball Federation (IHF) following the invasion of Ukraine.

Italy have taken their place and are in group C with Denmark, Argentina, and Montenegro.

The first game of the tournament is due to see Poland play the US before 15 other fixtures take place throughout the opening day before eight games on the following day.

The remaining group stage games are then due to be played out on June 24 and 25.

Following the initial round robin, a main round will follow with the top two teams in each of the eight groups move into four groups and battle it out for a place in the quarter-finals.

The third and fourth placed teams of the original round will be relegated to classification rounds which will rank the 32nd to 16th-placed finishers.
