Elisa Longo Borghini's third-placed finish was enough to be crowned champion of the 2022 Women's Tour, after the Italian squeezed ahead of her title rivals in a bundle sprint finish.

Although Lorena Wiebes of Team DSM claimed victory on the sixth and final stage in St Giles' with a time of 3 hour 38min 15sec, her third stage victory of the competition, it was Trek–Segafredo rider Borghini who stole march on both Grace Brown of FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Canyon-SRAM Racing's Kasia Niewiadoma.

Her finishing position gave her four extra bonus seconds, whilst Brown, who ended up placing 12th, and Niewiadoma, who came 20th on the day, earned only three and one extra seconds respectively.

As Borghini came into the final day level on time with Brown, the chaotic conclusion in Oxford city centre meant that, with a final overall time of 19 hours 19min 07sec, Borghini won the entire tour by a solitary second.

Niewiadoma had to settle for third five seconds back, denying her the chance to win the Women's Tour a second time after victory in 2017.

The Queen of the Mountain was won by Elise Chabbey of Switzerland, whose huge lead heading in to the final stage proved unassailable.

Canyon-SRAM Racing maintained their 44-second advantage over BikeExchange-Jayco, largely thanks to the bundle sprint, to also comfortably finish top of the team standings.

Details for next year's Women's Tour are yet to be announced.
