Ukraine's former national boxing coach Dmitry Sosnovsky has criticised Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU) President and new International Boxing Association (IBA) vice-president Volodymyr Prodyvus for being "a traitor" to his country for his links to IBA President Umar Kremlev.

Sosnovsky questioned the legitimacy of Prodyvus as President of the FBU, saying the conference in which he was elected in was held with "great violations".

This is after the latest election in December 2021, which saw Prodyvus continue in the position he has held since 2008.

However his main opponent, Kirill Shevchenko, alleged that his re-election was illegitimate.

Two-thirds of the 24 regions who elect the President must be present for the FBU election, meaning 16 are needed.

Eleven regions did not participate according to the Kyiv Post, meaning the election was five representatives short of the necessity quota.

FBU general secretary Ilya Gurovich said it was held within the "compliance with all necessary statutory procedures", according to IBA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

In response, Sosnovsky said Prodyvus was doing "everything to destroy Ukrainian boxing".

"The fake conference that allegedly elected him the President of the FBU was held with great violations," said Sosnovsky to Sport.ua

"In fact, he called himself President.

"I don't understand how he was registered with the Ministry of Justice.

"Prodyvus is not a President, he is an impostor."

During the IBA Extraordinary Congress in Istanbul last week, the FBU President was elected as an independent director, and then as the vice-president by the Board itself.

Other allegations made by Sosnovsky include claiming Prodyvus lied about bringing his family back to Ukraine during the invasion and calling him a "cynical collaborator" for working with Kremlev, the Russian-born IBA President.

"A person who cynically says that he is a patriot of Ukraine is cynicism of the highest grade," added Sosnovsky.

"Well, what kind of patriot of Ukraine is he?

"And after that, he goes and supports Kremlev - everyone knows what kind of person he is.

"The Ministry of Justice must register the legally elected President Kirill Shevchenko and that's all.

"Prodyvus has no moral right to head the FBU.

"He is a collaborator and a traitor to our Motherland."

He was critical of the FBU President wearing a t-shirt of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to elections too.

Prodyvus, according to Sport.ua, did not support Kremlev's re-election at the IBA Congress.

"My vote, that is, the voice of Ukrainian boxing, was not for the election of Umar Kremlev," said Prodyvus.

"This is the position of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine, publicly announced to the world: we do not support Russians in the sports world while there is a war in Ukraine.

"The presentation of such an award, even a formal one, is accompanied by the same formal handshake in the boxing world, a pat on the shoulder - there is no question of any 'public fraternisation'.

"I didn't vote for Umar Kremlev in the IBA Presidential vote, but since the rest of the world community has given him a credit of trust, I will work under the existing conditions."

Kremlev was re-elected unopposed without a vote at the IBA Extraordinary Congress after the ineligibility ruling of challenger Boris van der Vorst from The Netherlands, made by the Boxing Independent Integrity Unit.

insidethegames has contacted the IBA and Prodyvus for a response to the allegations made by Sosnovsky.
