European champion Vauchez has qualified for this year's edition of the World Games in Birmingham in Alabama, where she is set to compete in the talou Chángquán discipline of the martial art.

She is set to become the first athlete from France to compete in the women's wushu competitions at the World Games.

Vauchez was nominated for the IWGA monthly award by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), which cited her qualification for Birmingham 2022.

IWUF media manager Alice Liu described Vauchez as "one of the most popular competitors on the international wushu circuit".

"Her strong work ethic, soulful performance, heartfelt sportsmanship, and deeply reflective philosophical approach to wushu, demonstrates how abiding passion for one's sport can truly change the life of a person forever," Liu added.

Vauchez is based in Bordeaux, where she first began practicing wushu in 2003.

The athlete, who reflected that "wushu is really a story that covers all my life", is aiming to promote the development of wushu in France.

"We are trying to make this sport grow in the city, so we actually teach in two clubs, and in four different sport centres, in order to reach more people," Vauchez said.

Vauchez is set to compete at the Bill Battle Coliseum of Birmingham-Southern College on July 13 at the World Games, facing competitors from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China and Indonesia.

Her husband Benoist Denolle has also qualified for the World Games in the Jianshu/Qiangshu all-round wushu event.

After receiving the award, Vauchez is set to receive the World Games Athlete of the Month diploma as well as a gift from sponsor Protective Life, an insurance company.

Previous Athlete of the Month winners include Ukraine's Stanislav Horuna for March, a karate Olympic bronze medallist and world champion in the men's under-75 kilograms weight division.

A record total of 110 nations are set to compete at Birmingham 2022, beating the 102 which took part at the last edition in Wrocław in 2017.

The World Games are scheduled for July 7 to 17.

The multi-sport event was delayed by one year because of the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
