Caitlin Connor and Vincent Hancock triumphed in the mixed team skeet competition as the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Lonato concluded.

Connor was seeking her third title of the World Cup after victories in the women’s individual and team events at the Italian venue.

The United States pairing held their nerve in qualification, with a three-way shoot-off determining the teams for the gold-medal match.

Connor and Hancock had scored 145 in qualification, matching Nicolas Lejeune and Lucie Anastassiou of France and Italy’s Gabriele Rossetti and Diana Bacosi.

Lejeune and Anastassiou led the shoot-off, with Connor and Hancock ending second to clinch the other place in the final.

The US team emerged as the winners of the final, overcoming Lejeune and Anastassiou 7-1 to secure the title.

Two bronze-medal matches were held in the competition.

Rossetti and Bacosi triumphed in the first, with the Italians beating Nadine Messerschmidt and Vincent Haaga of Germany 6-4.


Britain’s Emily Hibbs and Karl Killander secured the second bronze medal.

The duo beat Italy’s Chiara Di Marziantonio and Luigi Lodde 4-3 in a shoot-off, after the contest initially finished 5-5.

The US topped the medal standings in Lonato with three gold and one silver medal.

Italy finished second with one gold, three silver and three bronze, with the hosts securing the most medals at the World Cup.

Spain, Britain, Croatia, Australia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic all ended the World Cup with one gold medal.
