The Fiji Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has announced a team of over 60 athletes for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Saipan.

Fiji will be represented in seven of the nine sports contested at the Games.

The nation's athletics, baseball, golf, triathlon, tennis, Va’a and weightlifting teams have been confirmed.

Banuve Tabakaucoro will be the sole member of Fiji’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic team to compete at the Games, after being selected for the men’s 100 metres, 200m and relay events.

Tabakaucoro is one of 10 men and two women named in Fiji’s athletics team.

Fiji will also have three participants in Para-athletics competitions, as well as a baseball team and six golfers.

Three men and three women will represent Fiji in triathlon competitions in Saipan, with the same number due to compete in tennis events.

Four athletes will compete in Va'a, while 15 weightlifters have also been selected to travel.

FASANOC have granted athletes and officials a 48-hour window to appeal should they have been left out of the team for the Games.

"As per FASANOC's Selection Justification Appeals Policy 'athletes and officials have an opportunity to appeal their cases if they feel they have been unfairly deprived of the opportunity to represent their sport/country as a member of a Fiji representative Team under the jurisdiction of FASANOC'," FASANOC said.

"Those who wish to appeal shall do so in writing, clearly stating his/her reasons for the appeal.

"The appeal shall be lodged with the Secretary General/CEO of FASANOC at Fiji Olympic House within 48 hours of the announcement of the decision against which the appeal is made."

The deadline for appeals to be submitted will fall tomorrow at 1pm local time.

The FASANOC Appeals Tribunal will convene on Friday (April 29) to discuss any cases.

The Pacific Mini Games are scheduled to take place in the Saipan from June 17 to 25.

It will be the first time the Northern Mariana Islands has hosted the Games, which will be held for the 11th time.

The Games were originally scheduled to take place in 2021.

The postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics until 2021 and the coronavirus pandemic led to the event being moved to 2022.
