Competing on home water at the Schwimm-und Sprunghalle in the Europasportpark, billed as one of the world's fastest swimming pools, Scholz won in a time of 1min 19.28sec, defeating Britain’s Tully Kearney.

During her win in the final, Scholz lowered her own world record that she set in the heats of the event - 1:21.20.

Scholz also broke the women's S4 100 metres freestyle world record in the season-opening Para Swimming World Series earlier this year in Aberdeen.

Elsewhere, The Netherlands Rogier Dorsman won the men's 100m freestyle with the time of 57.68.

Silver went to Colombia's Nelson Crispin Corzo in an area record of 1:04.69 with bronze going to Inaki Basiloff of Argentina in 1:02.25.

Dorsman's success on day two builds on his dominant 100 butterfly win yesterday.

Highlights from the opening day included Colombia's Carlos Zarate setting a world record time of 1:11.18 in the men's 100m breaststroke.

Crispin Corzo claimed the silver medal in 1:04.59 in an area record, with bronze going to Basiloff in 1:02.25.

Yesterday also saw the return of Germany's Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Elena Semechin, previously Elena Krawzow, who underwent chemotherapy for a brain tumour only two years ago.

Krawzow could only finish tenth in the women's 100m breaststroke, which was won by The Netherlands Lisa Kruger in 1:15.09.

In total, 450 athletes from nearly 50 countries are competing in Berlin.

The event is organised in multi-class events with athletes from different classes competing together, and scores accumulated in a point system. 

The German capital has been part of the World Series since its inaugural season in 2017.

In October 2020, the event marked the return of the World Series after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of all Para-swimming competitions.

The chwimm-und Sprunghalle is hosting the fourth stop on this season's Para Swimming World Series, and offers athletes an important opportunity to build momentum prior to the World Championships, due to take place in Madeira, Portugal in June.
