Brasília has been announced as the host of the 2022 Brazilian University Games, reprising its role from 2021.

The Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU) confirmed the Brazilian capital as the venue last month.

CBDU President Luciano Cabral signed the agreement with the Brazilian Government.

The Government were represented by Marcelo Magalhães, the Special Secretariat for Sport.

Giselle Ferreira, a secretary at the Federal District Government’s Sport Department, also signed the agreement.

"It is an honour to announce that the Brazilian University Games - JUBs 2022 will be hosted again in Brasília," said Cabral.

"Capital Federal showed extraordinary conditions at the reception of the 2021 edition, and even during the pandemic the event was a huge success.

"The 2022 edition will be even more structured.

"We have the full support of the Federal Government and the Government of Brasília, providing guarantees and conditions to carry out an even better and memorable Brazilian University Games for all participants."

A total of 3,500 athletes from 271 higher education establishments participated in last year’s Games in Brasília.

A total of 26 sports were contested at the Games, with 2,000 medals awarded.

"Welcoming thousands of athletes here in last year's edition had meant a lot to us, because it marked the reopening of our city to host major national and international sporting events," said Ferreira.

"By the determination of our governor Ibaneis Rocha, after months of hard work and commitment, we managed to deliver an incredible event."

Brasília had previously been set to become the second Brazilian host of the Summer Universiade, with the capital awarded the 2019 event.

Brasília was forced to withdraw in 2014 due to financial difficulties, with the Italian city of Naples ultimately staging the event.
