Seventeen-year-old Lala Kramarenko led clubs and ribbon qualifying at the International Gymnastics Federation Rhythmic Gymnastic Grand Prix, but Dina Averina still did enough to win the all-around title.

Averina, the reigning world champion and all-around Olympic silver medallist at Tokyo 2020, amassed a total of 138.85 points at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace.

That was enough to beat fellow Russian Kramarenko to the overall victory by 0.40 points.

Arina Averina, Dina's identical twin and the European champion, was third in the all-around standings after a below-par second day of the event at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace.

Kramarenko scored 35.30 points for her clubs routine and 32.15 with the ribbon - both field-leading marks - as she upstaged the Averina twins and almost earned an all-around victory.

Dina Averina was second in clubs and ribbon qualifying, with respective scores of 35.10 and 31.80, the latter dragged down by two drops, to narrowly stay ahead.

The top five in the overall competition were all Russian.

Individual apparatus finals are scheduled tomorrow.

This is the first competition the Averina twins have taken part in since a new code of points came into force.

The 23-year-olds were both struck down by COVID-19 before the competition, according to Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation officials, and so too Kramarenko.
