Sweden's world record-breaking double Olympic speed skating gold medallist Nils van der Poel insists his comparison of Dutch officials attempting to influence ice-making staff to doping offences is merited.

"I despise doping, it is a very hot topic but it is also only cheating and in my eyes, affecting competition personnel is also cheating," Van der Poel said.

Van der Poel said the Royal Dutch Skating Federation had sent a "lobbyist" to Beijing to try and influence the racing conditions.

"The similarity between the Mclaren Report is to me, obvious," he continued.

"It is turning the dice in your favour by using means that are far from fair play.

"I did not enjoy using the words but I found it fit to use them and I stand by them."

Van der Poel seems set to step back from international competition after completing a superb 5,000 and 10,000 metres double here in Beijing.

In the 10,000m, the Swede lowered his own record to 12min 30.74sec yesterday to win gold from by 13.85sec from Dutchman Patrick Roest.

Van der Poel said he hopes to discuss the problem of influencers with Roest.

"I don’t think this is an issue for the NOCs [National Olympic Committees], this is an issue for speed skating," Van der Poel insisted.

"We speed skaters must come to an agreement on the rules we want to play by and that does not end here in Beijing.

"I believe if I can share with other skaters in what way we can improve our physical ability, perhaps it doesn’t seem impossible to them to win races in a fair way.

"If we can speak about it openly that can defeat unjust conditions."
