The Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee has announced that the mascot for the first edition of the Saudi Games, scheduled to be held in March, is the Arabian leopard.

The animal was chosen to raise greater awareness about its dwindling numbers in the world and to prevent its extinction.

This is in line with the aims of the Global Arabian Leopard Fund and the International Union for Conservative of Nature warning the leopard is a critically species.

According to The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate, a new female Arabian leopard was born in September 2021.

The mascot will depict the three colours of the animal as well as the Games’ logo.
