Defending champions Portugal kicked off the day's action with a 3-2 win against Finland.

Afonso Jesus drew first blood for Portugal inside four minutes after Pany burst down the left wing and crossed for the defender to convert with a simple finish.

An unmarked Miika Hosio pulled one back for Finland after 10 minutes, slotting home at the back post with his chest from a Henri Alamikkotervo free kick.

Jesus bagged his second to give Portugal the lead going into halftime.

Captain Panu Autio, who played the last game of his career tonight, drew Finland level once more after 27 minutes but it was short-lived as Miguel Ângelo smashed in the winner for Jorge Braz's men.

"We knew it would be a tough match," said Portugal manager Braz.

"It was a Euro quarter-final with a team that have grown in futsal in the last years, with an excellent coach.

"We had chances to increase the score, but they believed until the end.

"But it’s done, another phase that we passed.

"We will now work to be a strong Portugal in the semi-final."

In the later game, Ukraine survived a potential comeback to defeat Kazakhstan 5-3.

The two-time runners-up took a 3-0 lead courtesy of Petro Shoturma, Ihor Korsun and Mykhailo Zvarych after 30 minutes.

Kazakhstan's defenders Douglas Junior and Birzhan Orazov made it 3-2 with two minutes remaining.

Volodymyr Razuvanov and Yaroslav Lebid quickly crushed any hopes of an equaliser with two goals in 25 seconds.

Orazov then secured his brace in the last minute.

"Our dream is over, our dream was to play in the semi-final," said Kazakhstan coach Kaká.

"But now we have to analyse the match, the way we played.

"I take full responsibility for the result."

Russia and Georgia are set to meet in the third quarter-final tomorrow, before Spain play Slovakia to decide the final four.
