After a COVID-19-enforced delay and a change of host, the Copa América de Futsal is set to return in Paraguay's capital Asunción tomorrow, with heavyweights Brazil and Argentina looking to continue their domination of the tournament.

The Copa América was originally due to be held last year, but was pushed back because of the pandemic.

Rio de Janeiro had been set to host the event, but it was moved to the SND Arena in Asunción earlier this month because of COVID-19 restrictions in Brazil.

The 2019 edition in Los Ángeles was suspended because of social unrest in Chile, and ultimately not played.

Brazil's victory over hosts Argentina in the most recent final in 2017 secured a record 10th title since the inaugural Copa América in 1992.

The Argentinians have lifted the trophy on the other two occasions the tournament has taken place, including a win against Paraguay in the final in Ecuador in 2015.

They also beat arch-rivals Brazil in the semi-finals of the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania last year, with Argentina losing to Portugal in the final and Brazil overcoming Kazakhstan in the third-place match.

A Group B match between Peru and Venezuela is set to open the Copa América tomorrow, followed by Chile against Colombia in Group A.

Argentina are then due to face Bolivia in Group B, with Brazil taking on Ecuador in the other group in the final match of the day.

Two-time runners-up Uruguay are the other team in Group A, and are scheduled to start against Colombia on Sunday (January 30), with hosts and three-time runners-up Paraguay then due to take on Venezuela.

The group stage is set to conclude on Thursday (February 3), with Tuesday (February 1) designated as a rest day.

The top two teams in both groups will advance to the semi-finals, which are due to follow placement matches for seventh to 10th place on February 5.

The Copa América is scheduled to conclude with the fifth- and third-place matches, followed by the final on February 6.
