Japanese skiers Ikuma Horishima and Anri Kawamura won the men’s and women’s events respectively as the final moguls World Cup competitions before the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics took place at Deer Valley in the United States.

In the men’s event Horishima followed his second place at the venue yesterday, by reaching the top step of the podium today as he triumphed with 84.04 points.

Horishima swapped places with yesterday’s winner Mikaël Kingsbury, with the Canadian settling for second place on this occasion with 82.84 points.

Third place went to Sweden’s Walter Wallberg with a score of 79.62.

Following today’s competition Kingsbury still leads the overall World Cup standings in the discipline, but saw his lead reduced over Horishima to 12 points.

Kingsbury sits top with 572 points, with Horishima close behind in 560, and third placed Wallberg mathematically unable to catch the pair with a round remaining, on 345.

In the women’s event Kawamura also went one better from the previous day’s action, topping the podium with 80.89 points.

Jakara Anthony of Australia also went one place better than the previous day as she finished in second place with 80.38 points.

Yesterday’s winner Perrine Laffont of Canada could only finish in third place with 80.02, and as a result lost her place at the top of the season’s World Cup standings in the discipline.

Following her win, Kawamura now leads the overall standings with 549 points, with Laffont 39 points adrift in second place on 510.

Australia’s Jakara Anthony is just five points behind Laffont on 505, with the Canadian 195 points clear of her closest challenger in the overall standings.

The final round of the moguls World Cup season is scheduled to take place in Megeve, France on March 19, with men’s and women’s races scheduled.

Moguls action is scheduled to open the freestyle skiing programme at Beijing 2022, with competition due to run from February 3 to 6.
