Double Olympic champion Vitalina Batsarashkina clinched a victory in the women's air pistol event in the first International Shooting Sport Federation 10 metres Grand Prix of the year at the Sport Hall of the Janko Glazer in Ruše.

Russia's Batsarashkina was the best of the eight qualifiers for the semi-finals with a score of 588.

She then progressed to the first stage of the final by placing second to Greece's Anna Korakaki in her semi-final.

Another second-place finish in stage one of the medal match helped her to progress to a tie for gold against Veronika Major.

The Hungarian scored 39 in the first stage to Batsarashkina's 37, with the reigning 10m and 25m air pistol Olympic champion only narrowly seeing off France's Camille Jedrzejewski to secure her place in the gold medal match.

However, she found form in the second stage of the final, thrashing Major 16-2, with Jedrzejewski taking bronze.

Maslennikov was a men's 10m air rifle bronze medallist at the Rio 2016 Olympics, with Galashina earning silver in the women's equivalent at Tokyo 2020.

Both finalists had scored 36 points to progress from stage one.

Slovakia's Patrik Jány and Kamila Novotna as well as Hungary's Zalán Pekler and Eszter Denes collected bronze medals with their performances in stage one of the final.

Ruslan Lunev of Azerbaijan triumphed in the men's air pistol at the Grand Prix, beating Czech Republic's Pavel Schejbal 16-12 in the second stage of the final.

Hungary's Miklós Tátrai took bronze, narrowly missing out on progressing to the second stage of the final as he matched Schejbal's score of 36.

Action continues tomorrow in the Slovenian town, with finals scheduled in the mixed team air pistol and the men's and women's air rifle.
