Long jumper Chantel Malone of the British Virgin Islands has her sights set on next year's Commonwealth Games as well as the World Athletics Championships.

The 2019 Pan American Games gold medallist has shrugged off doubts that she will be able to perform at both events seeing as there is just four days between them.

The World Athletics Championships in Eugene in Orgon are due to run from July 15 to 24, before the Commonwealth Games take place from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham - across the Atlantic Ocean in England.

"It’s going to be tricky," Malone said to SportsMax.

"It will definitely be a very intense next three cycles, but I think it’s doable for sure.

"The US athletes normally have their trials and then the World Championships or whatever Games they’re preparing for within that period."

The 30-year-old - the first BVI athlete to win a Pan American Games gold medal - says her health is her priority.

"It's just about making sure that I can stay healthy," Malone added, speaking to SportsMax.

"That's my focus this year.

"To stay healthy and continue to grow and become a master and student of my craft."

Track and field events are due to be contested from August 2 to 7 at Birmingham 2022.

The BVI has won one medal ever at the Commonwealth Games - Kyron McMaster's men's 400 metres hurdles gold at Gold Coast 2018.

Malone will be looking to add to that tally.

At Lima 2019, Malone jumped 6.68 metres to beat the United States' Keturah Orji by 0.02m.

Malone was 12th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and sixth among Commonwealth Games-eligible athletes.
