Italy's Sofia Goggia doubled up on women's downhill victories at the International Ski Federation Alpine Ski World Cup in Lake Louise.

Goggia, who claimed the first of her wins yesterday in 1min 46.95sec, followed up her sensational performance with another consummate triumph today, powering down in 1:48.42.

The 29-year-old, who won four of the seven races to secure last season’s downhill World Cup title, once again finished well clear of her nearest rivals and has now won six successive World Cups, equalling the record set by Americans Lindsey Vonn and Picabo Street.

Only Breezy Johnson of the United States and Switzerland’s Corinne Suter finished within a second of Goggia.

Johnson, who was the favourite entering competition but only finished second yesterday, again claimed second place in 1:49.26, with Suter, who was Goggia's greatest challenger last season, 0.14sec further back in third, moving up from a fifth-place finish the day prior.

Goggia, who missed a home World Championships through injury last season, is building up towards a defence of her Olympic downhill title at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics next year.

The World Cup event in Lake Louise concludes with super-G competition tomorrow.
