Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike has been announced as the keynote speaker for the upcoming Inclusion Summit.

Koike will speak on day one of the Summit on Thursday (December 2), about what the Japanese capital learnt from hosting the re-arranged Paralympic Games.

She will focus on measures taken by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as part of efforts to ensure an inclusive society.

The two-day Inclusion Summit is being staged jointly by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the World Academy of Sport, with the support of the International Disability Alliance (IDA).

Its theme is "Building back better: Sport as a tool to place persons with disabilities at the heart of the inclusion agenda".

A group of 40 speakers from civil society, business, development, sport, entertainment and assistive technologies are due to take part in 16 virtual sessions.

There will be a mixture of keynote addresses, panel discussions and presentations with two key areas due to be explored.

These are the promotion of social inclusion and human rights, and how sport can advance the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Other speakers confirmed so far include IPC President Andrew Parsons and IDA chairperson Ana Lucia Arellano.

They will be joined by the likes of Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for human rights, Helena Dalli, the European Commissioner for equality, Carla Qualtrough, Canada's Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, and David Evangelista, the Special Olympics European Eurasia President.
