Arman Adamian got the better of Matvey Kanikovskiy in an all-Russian men’s under-100 kilograms final at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.

An ippon with 26 seconds remaining saw Adamian overcome his compatriot and secure one of two gold medals for Russia on the final day of competition at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena Abu Dhabi.

The European Games gold medallist almost lost his semi-final bout as Belgium’s Toma Nikiforov led with a waza-ari before Adamian produced an ippon with 30 seconds left.

The bronze medals went to Canada’s Shady Elnahas and The Netherlands’ Michael Korrel.

Russia’s other gold medal came in the men’s under-90kg class when Mansur Lorsanov defeated Komronshokh of Tajikistan with an ippon.

Dzhakhongir Madzhidov secured another medal for Tajikistan with a bronze as Davlat Bobonov of Uzbekistan also sealed a podium spot.

Tsetsentsengel Odkhuu of Mongolia defeated Vlăduț Simionescu of Romania with an ippon to clinch the men’s over-100kg title.

Tajikistan’s Temur Rakhimov and Canada’s Marc Deschenes won the bronze medal bouts.

Britain’s Emma Reid delivered an ippon to see off Germany’s Alina Boehm in the women’s under-78kg final.

It was Britain’s second gold of the tournament following Lucy Renshall’s success in the women’s under-63kg category yesterday.

Reid was joined on the podium by compatriot Natalie Powell who picked up bronze along with Israel’s Inbar Lanir.

A waza-ari was enough for Brazil’s world champion Beatriz Souza to clinch the women’s over-78kg crown as France’s Lea Fontaine had to settle for silver.

Israel’s Raz Hershko and France’s Coralie Hayme were the bronze medallists in that category.
