Morisi Kvitelashvili won Georgia's first ever International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix title as Russia took three golds at the Rostelecom Cup in Sochi.

In the men’s event, Kvitelashvili claimed gold after winning the free skate in a historic triumph for the nation.

Kvitelashvili, who was in second place after the short programme yesterday, finished with 266.33 points after an impressive routine which featured only one significant error, when he fell on a quad toeloop.

Mikhail Kolyada of Russia started his routine in shaky fashion but claimed the silver medal after finishing with 264.64 points overall, enough to qualify for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, scheduled to be held in Osaka, Japan from December 9 to 12.

Overnight leader Kazuki Tomono of Japan finished in the bronze medal position after missing a triple Axel during his routine, ending on 264.19 points.

In the ice dance world champions Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia claimed a second Grand Prix gold of the season as they finished with a total of 211.72 points.

Sinitsina and Katsalapov secured their place in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in the process.

Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy earned silver with a total of 203.71 points, also securing their Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final place.

The bronze medal went to Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Soerensen of Canada, with a total score of 191.40.

Russia claimed a clean sweep in the pairs event, as world champions Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov overturned a half point overnight deficit to triumph.

The pair produced an impressive free skate routine to finish top with an overall total of 226.98 points.

The silver medal went to overnight leaders Daria Pavliuchenko and Denis Khodykin with a miss on a triple Salchow proving costly as they finished with a total of 212.59 points.

A Russia clean sweep was completed by Iasmina Kadyrova and Ivan Balchenko, who ended with a total of 193.58 points, after Kadyrova fell during the death spiral part of the routine.

The women’s event also saw Russia claim a clean sweep, with Kamila Valieva, who yesterday broke the short programme world record, continue her impressive form as she broke her own record score in the free skating.

World junior champion Valieva scored 185.29 points in the free skate with a masterful routine to Ravel’s Bolero, with the 15-year-old ending with a total score of 272.21 points.

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva scored 149.13 with her free routine as she placed second overall with a final total of 229.23 points.

Maiia Khromykh completed Russia’s sweep of the podium scoring 154.97 points, a personal best score in the free skate, as she finished with 219.69 points overall,  climbing from fifth place overnight.
