Riiber got his season off to the best possible start with victory in the Finnish resort only to go from hero to zero in the space of 24 hours.

The Norwegian was disqualified after his jumping suit failed to comply with tournament rules.

"The waist was a little smaller than it should be and the overall was a little too big," Riiber told Viaplayle.

"This is an unpleasant situation and should not happen."

With Riiber suffering a surprise disqualification, Weber seized his opportunity to win his first World Cup crown.

Weber pulled off the furthest jump of the day with 136.5 metres as he collected 151.8 points and was the first to go in the 10 kilometres cross-country race.

Mario Seidl of Austria jumped 133.5m to take second spot with 150.3 points as Estonian Kristjan Ilves landed 136m to place third with 149.9 points.

It was a thrilling cross-country race with 15 athletes in the hunt for medals going into the last lap.

But German trio Weber, Eric Frenzel and Vinzenz Geiger proved too strong after launching an attack.

Weber prevailed against his teammates, clocking 26mins 11secs to clinch the title and take the lead in the overall standings.

Frenzel was 1.2 behind in second with Geiger 2.3 further back in third.

The third and final leg in Ruka is due to take place tomorrow.
