The United States and Canada have unveiled their ice hockey jerseys for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games as they prepare to renew their rivalry.

The old adversaries have both revealed three new Nike kits which will be worn by the men’s, women’s and Para teams in the Chinese capital.

Using Nike Swift technology, the jerseys are expected to enhance mobility, reduce weight and help minimise distraction during intense play.

USA Hockey claimed "American pride and ingenuity" were the inspiration behind the designs, playing both homage to the country’s industrial past and representing the future of innovation and technology.

A subtle band of stars is set between red, white and stripes that surround the chest and arms on the home and away kits as a nod to the American flag, while the alternate jersey bears a deep blue double stripe around the body.

Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic jerseys come in traditional red and white as well as a black version which all showcase the iconic maple leaf.

"There is no greater honour in sport than representing your country on the world’s biggest stage at the Olympics and Paralympics, and our men’s, women’s and para hockey team hopefuls are excited by the opportunity to wear these three jerseys that embody Canadian hockey," said Scott Smith, President and chief operating officer of Hockey Canada.

"We know our athletes, staffs and hockey fans alike will wear these jerseys with a tremendous amount of pride when our hockey teams head to Beijing represented by one leaf, as one team with one goal in mind, and that is bringing three gold medals back to Canada."

David Shoemaker, chief executive officer and secretary general of the Canadian Olympic Committee, added: "Team Canada’s hockey jerseys are one of the most iconic symbols of the Olympic Winter Games.

"The red, white and black of the jerseys represent Canada’s rich history as the most successful country in Olympic hockey."

Canada has won more ice hockey medals than any other nation, claiming 13 golds, six silvers and three bronzes.

The US has also had plenty of success in the event, winning four gold, 11 silver and two bronze medals.

At Pyeongchang 2018, the US women’s team clinched gold with a 3-2 victory over Canada who had triumphed at the previous four Games.
