Kazakhstan has hosted its first-ever National School Teqball Championship, with the event aiming to encourage youngsters to partake in the sport.

The competition took place on November 2 and 3 in Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan.

It was the first teqball tournament ever hosted in Kazakhstan, with organisers hoping it will grow the sport in the country.

Ten teams from eight schools and eight towns competed.

They included two teams from Nur-Sultan, two from Yesik BIL in Esik, and one apiece from Yekibastuz, Kostanay, Almaty, Zhezkazgan, Semey and Shymkent.

The tournament, which featured children aged between 14 and 17, was geared towards providing players with the maximum amount of competitive playing time, with eight teams qualifying for the knockout stage.

One of the teams from Nur-Sultan claimed gold, with Yekibastuz and one of the Yesik teams winning silver medals and the other Yesik team and Almaty winning bronze.

The International Federation of Teqball hopes the event will inspire the next generation of Kazakh teqball players.
