Dutchman Lars van der Haar took his first International Cycling Union (UCI) Cyclo-cross World Cup victory since 2017 in Tábor while his compatriot Lucinda Brand won her second event of the season after a dramatic final lap.

Van der Haar kept a fast pace over the final two laps of the Czech Republic course after riding clear of all his rivals to finish in 1hour 2min 27sec.

World Cup leader Eli Iserbyt of Belgium had to settle for silver with a time of 1:02:38 before fellow Belgian Quinten Herman crossed the line in 1:02:42 to round out the podium.

Despite the loss, Iserbyt's second place saw him increase his overall lead in the standings to 51 points with Van der Haar moving up to second with six rounds of the 16-race series completed.

Brand went into the women's race as the in-form rider having won the European Championships last weekend as well as the midweek Superprestige event in Niel in Belgium.

The powerful 32-year-old pulled away from a group of seven riders on the last lap to take a comprehensive win in 52:00, her first since October 13 in Fayetteville in the United States.

"It's magic!" said Brand.

"It maybe also helps to do road racing - it was very tactical instead of technical.

"I had to make a plan in the race and luckily it worked out."

Puck Pieterse of The Netherlands lit up the race with an aggressive approach seeing the 19-year-old make constant attacks and jumping over the uphill planks section.

Her tactics paid off as she finished second in 52:03 to beat third-placed countrywoman Annemarie Worst by milliseconds in a sprint finish.

Brand extended her lead in the World Cup to 19 points after season rival Denise Betsema of The Netherlands trailed behind in a disappointing ninth-place finish.

The season continues next week as riders take to the Belgian town of Koksijde for the Duinencross Koksijde on November 21.
