Andreja Slokar earned the first World Cup victory of her career at Lech-Zürs, triumphing in the women's parallel giant slalom.

The Slovenian qualified third in the morning session and went on to beat Thea Louise Stjernesund, the fastest qualifier, in the final.

Slokar crossed the line 0.05sec ahead of her Norwegian rival.

That came after a semi-final win over Kristin Lysdahl - another Norwegian and the second-best qualifier - and a quarter-final victory versus Swede Sara Hector.

French skier Coralie Frasse Sombet was Slokar's other victim, in the round of 16.

The fancied Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami was a surprise casualty of the round of 16, as was the Austrian Katharina Liensberger.

Liensberger is the duel world champion in the discipline, along with Italy's Marta Bassino, whom Stjernesund got the better of at the last-four stage.

The 24-year-old Slokar had never produced a top-five finish on the World Cup circuit before today.

Lech-Zürs is the only parallel race on this season's calendar and the men will be in action at the Austrian venue tomorrow.
