Mehran Nikoeimajd has been suspended by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for committing an anti-doping rule violation (ARDV) and will lose his 2019 World Para Athletics Championships silver medal as a result.

The Iranian must serve a four-year suspension period after the "Use or Attempted Use by an Athlete of a Prohibited Substance or a Prohibited Method" which breaches Article 2.2 of the IPC's Anti-Doping Code.

A World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory reported an adverse analytical finding for a chemical and physical manipulation for urine substitution.

The sample was collected out-of-competition prior to his personal best throw of 11.41 metres at the 2019 competition in Dubai, which resulted in a silver medal finish.

The Anti-Doping Tribunal found that Nikoeimajd was not able to explain why his sample was not consistent with urine.

The shot putter will be ineligible for competition until September 6 2024, with his suspension beginning on September 7 2020.

All of his results obtained from the date the sample was collected will be disqualified.
