Dubai is set to host the International Bowling Federation (IBF) Para Bowling World Championships, with competition beginning tomorrow.

Five days of competition are scheduled at the Dubai International Bowling Centre.

Two classes will take place across both genders.

The W1 class incorporates all wheelchair classifications, leg amputees, cerebral palsy and athletes mobility dysfunction.

All participants will compete from a wheelchair and play to modified rules.

The W2 quad classification features wheelchair users with quadriplegia, meaning disability and dysfunction in all four limbs.

Singles, doubles and team competitions will take place during the World Championships.

The top 32 bowlers in the first round of singles competition will advance to the round two group stage, where the athletes will be divided into four groups of eight.

A round robin format will be held with players awarded three points for a win and one for a draw.

The top two in each group will advance to the quarter-finals, where winners will play runners-up in best of three games contests.

The semi-finals and finals will also be held over three games.

The doubles event will follow the same format.

Mixed team competition will see teams bowl 12 games in the opening round, with the top 16 advancing to a second-round group stage.

The teams will be split into four groups of four, with the top two reaching the quarter-finals.

The knockout stage will feature best of three game contests.

Four players will feature in each team.

Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the World Championships for the most valuable athlete per gender.

The best federation per gender and a combined federation trophy will also be presented.
